Tatami mats are grabbing attention all over the world.
In these complex times, we are more conscious of our comfort, health and domestic hygiene than ever before. We all want to be able enrich our life at home and keep out bacteria.
That is where Nagomi Design’s tatami mats come in. We provide the best flooring materials – evolved from traditional Japanese rush tatami mats, and ideally adapted for the present.

Nagomi’s tatami can be placed anywhere in your home. With a thickness of 1.5 cm, they are effectively as thin as a rug.
Green tatami mats are the most traditional and popular colour, but our mats are also available in various other colours, so they can add an alluring new atmosphere to any interior.
Nagomi’s tatami is made from a balanced combination of durable polypropylene and moisture-absorbing calcium carbonate that gives it an organic texture. And it’s environmentally friendly – it won’t emit dioxins or any other toxic substances if burned or disposed of.
Our tatami has the same amount of comfortable cushioning as traditional mats made from igusa rushes.
Compared to igusa, however, our tatami is strong, durable, and fade-resistant. It comes treated to repel water and can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth.
Unlike traditional igusa, mites and mould are not a problem. Our tatami is also slip-resistant.

Tatami’s firmness helps the body to naturally adopt a correct sleeping posture while reducing tension on joints. Walking on tatami barefoot lessens the shock to the calves and knees due to its shock-absorbing properties. Tatami floors are warm. The intricate straw pattern acts as a blanket which disperses heat very slowly, and tatami construction provides for excellent sound absorption as insulation too.

Our tatami is easy to clean and maintain. The surface has gone through a water repellent process, so even spilled coffee can be wiped up easily.

Good cushioning provides safety for children and the elderly, and they are gentle on bare skin.
